ABOUT ME

Born to a pair of lovely couple on 22nd March, 2006, i was named Chloe by May and Yiyin by Desmond. May is my Mum. She is an educator by profession, a dedicated teacher i must say. She is very passionate about Biology and Life Sciences. I've been hearing so much about Bio when i'm in her womb! Anyway, May's life seems very enriched. Busy with coming out with teaching pedegogies (another thing i've been hearing when i'm in her womb) and of course me! :> Hope she can put aside sometime for herself...she's getting unglam and haggard!!! Desmond, you should have guessed it by now....that's right, his sperm is the one that it responsible for part of my existance. Solider...defend the country...that's his job! Family oriented guy...he's always sandwiched between May and his family!? But he's doing a good job!

CHLOE'S BODY PART

Integrating finger training, Art and language at 20 mths 1 week and 3 days old. May tells you how i did it.....

May spoke:

I got her to lie face up on a long piece of paper. Next, using a crayon, i trace the outline of her body. Its amusing watching her lying down, and the eagerness in her eyes, wondering what i am doing with that crayon going around her body.

When is done, i helped her up and she was excited to see her body in life size drawn on paper.

ART
She chose the colour of crayons and I then guided her to draw in the facial feature and hair.

She chose the poster colour for her hand print and footprint. I helped her paint the colour on her palm and soles. Next, i guided her to do the prints on the papers.

Finger Training
This refers to the stickers used to represent the fingernails. She got to chose the stickers and practice peeling them off the sticker book and pasting it at the tip of the fingers of the hand prints.

Language
This refers to the labellings given to different body parts. We did it 2 ways:
a) I asked her where is a particular body part, she pointed it on the paper and i held her hands and label it.

b) I pointed to a specific body part on the paper and asked her what it us. I held her hands and label it.

And finally, for the finishing touch, I held her hand and wrote: My Body Parts".

20 MTHS...MORE TO COME....

May spoke again...enough mum...enough

Phonics
I was introduced to this website: www.starfall.com by my colleauge.
Chloe loves it. She picked up the sounds of each alphabet very fast. But i was mindful to restict her to the viewing for no more than 5 minutes, once in about three days. I was afraid that she will be addicted to it.

Recently, when we asked her "what does 'A' says?", she could reply the sound. We tried that on all alphabets and she could pronounce the sounds.

A for Apple
It an usual routine for us...when we drive up the multistorey carpark, i will calll out the alphabet on each deck. Since she has acquired the recognition of each alphabet, i try to increase the depth by calling out words that begin with the particular alphabet when the car drove past each deck. E.g: Deck A. A for apple, A for Ant. Deck B. B for Boy, B for Baby. So there was this particular day, as usual, i did the same routine. When we reached deck C, i said Deck C. C for Cat, C for Car, C for......My mind is blank! I suddenly couldnt think of a "C" word. I repeated, C for..... I could sense Chloe is waiting for me to say the "C" word. My mind is still blank. Suddenly, Chloe blurt out " C for Chloeeeeeee". We were astonished.

The car drove past Deck D. I asked, "D for.............?" Chloe replied, " Duck". Next, the car drove past Deck E. I said. "E for egg", E for ............?". She replied "Elephant". Finally, hubby found a lot at deck F. I asked again, " F for ............?". Chloe replied, "Fish".

Lotsa Praises and hugs to Chloe!!!

Do Re Me
This happened yeserday morning. She sat infront on her piano. I asked her where is Do? She hit the right key. Where is Soh? She hit the right key again. Couldn't believe it, i tried again. She could hit the right keys when asked for each note in an octave. Now, we are trying to migrate from Do Reh Me to CDE. Hope she can identify the correct alphabet to each key soon.

Dounuts
Hubby brought MUNCHI dounuts. The donuts were kept in the box. He then proceeded to fetch us from my mum place. In the lift, Chloe saw the box in the transparent plastic bag which hubby was holding. She called out in excitment. Her exact words loud and clear were: "Daddy buy dounuts!"

Hold me JiuMa
This was a typical evening. My brother and his wife brought Chloe along to causeway point. His wife is rather petite and was carrying chloe in her arms. Chloe is already 20 mths and it can be quite heavy for her built. As they shop, Chloe slipped lower and lower until as if Chloe's body is almost below her Jiuma's waist. In a moment of anxiety, Chloe called out " JiuMa hold meeeeeeeee!"

Both my brother and his wife were amused!!!

Chloe seems to have grown overnight now that she starts to articulate more and more! :>

Chloe's Latest Devlopment at 18 mths to 20 mths old

May spoke again:

Questioning??
2 to 3 weeks ago, she started questioning us."What is this?", What is Daddy doing?","Where is this?","Who is this?" Today, she cannot stop asking us these questions. Sometimes, she will point to a direction and ask "what is this?". Well, this can be frustrating for me because, i cant quite figure out what she is pointing at really :>

In fact, her questioning skill was first noted when she was 16 to 17 mths. But back then we wasnt sure that she really question because we only heard her said that once in a long long while. But at 19 mths it became obvious she questions and questions and questions....

We did realised that her her level of questioing skills is elimentary. they are the "whos", "wheres", "what", "where". I read somewhere these are basic questioings, when a child is cognitivly more developed and ready, the hows and the whys will appear.

Please, Thank you & Sorry
I dont think she quite understand the meaning of these but i'll still continue to educate her the basic manners.

When prompted " What must you say?", she's able to say thank you or XieXie Ni at 16-17mths old. When we prompted "Apologise" She can respond " i'm sorry". Sometimes, when we showed anger, she apologised too. "Please"....thats something we insists she says when she request for something. E.g: If she wants some more bread, she will have to say, Mommy, can i have some more bread please?" Well, the best she can reproduce was " Mommy, some more bread, please?".

[b]Sink & Float
Well, this phenomenon is commonly seen in our everyday life. I make it more delibrate for her. In my bathroom, I will prepare a transparent container, half filled with water, and then gather different objects such as coin, small sponges, rubber band, beads, etc and i'll get her to throw the item into the container. So for eg: when she threw in the coin, and it sinks, i'll say "the coin sinks". She enjoyed that!

There are some occasions she will drag me to the bathroom and say "SINK AND FLOAT" a strong gesture that she wanted to play the game. :>

Four Seasons
We have been showing her Baby Enistein "Baby Monet" series. She must have picked up the terms and relate them to the vivid colours that now when asked her what are the 4 seasons, she can tell you: Spring, Summer, Spring, Winter. She can recognise the words. She can also relate some sights and scene to the individual seaasons.

Walking her toy
It was a typical evening at 19++ mth old, we went to my mum place to fetch her, unlike most other evening, that particular day, she brought along her 10" tall big bird. My mum's unit is a corner unit, so its a long walk along the corridor to the liift. Chloe walked infront of us carrying her big bird in her arm. Then she made this remark, "I walk big bird to the park". I thought i was hearing things, i turned to hubby and asked you heard that...he nodded his head in amazement.

I am 18 goin on 19....

May spoke:

LANGUAGE
We have brought a set of language genius flash cards. We commit ourselves to flash a set of 10 cards to her every week as part of the home practice. She loves looking at them. One day, she picked up the cards and started reading on her own. To our surpise she read the following " put beans into jar". What was printed on the back of the card was " I put the beans into the jar". That was when i asked myself, maybe she is ready to read. So, there it was starting to put cards of words on magnetic white board and point my finger to every word in the 5 to 6 words sentence. She reads them all (touched touched).

But she has not quite acquire self reading on her own i.e. Show her a sentence she reads on her own without guide.

SPEED READING
She loves flipping thru the story books. She will look at each page for a few secs then flipped to the next. I wonder if she is practicing speed reading.

WRITING & DRAWING & PAINTING
We bought her a 2 way easel board (one side is black board) the other side is glass board) from IKEA. Papers was laid over the board and she was encourgaed to scribble and draw and writre on the papers. This had become her favourite corner since.

Inspired by Selina's Right Brain Art Journel, i started Chloe on painting at 17 mths plus. Her first painting looks to me like a blur turtle. To date, she have created about 25 paintings, all of which are from poster paints. I think is time to introduce her to another medium. Will upload some of her masterpieces to share soon! :>

I am currently gettin her to do the four seasons since i introduced to her about 4 seasons and colours of seasons. Hope to do a canvas transfer on this and mount the masterpieces.

ANATOMY
We got her a 50 cm tall, human model which had major organs that can be dismantled and assembled. She likes him very much. She called her "Man Man". She could recognise and verbalised, brain, heart, liver, intestines (can't differentiate small and larhe intestines though), kidneys, lungs.

COUNTING IN MALAY
Credit to Daddy. He thought her how to count 1 to 10 in malay. But cant quite go on after "delapan".
Hasn't been updating my adventure for nearly 6 mths.

Here are some:

Story Reading
May have been reading storybooks to me since she was 14 months old. May & Des bought some of these simple reading from popular bookshops. These are short stories about 8 to 10 pages. Each page come with beautiful pictures and a single sentence. 1 month into story reading and one day, as usual, they were reading the sentences in the story book to me. they were suprised that i could fill in the last word in every sentence. they have upgraded me to 2 sentences per page since.

My memory of the story was suprisingly powerful. There are times, they will recite the story to me without the book, and i can fill in the blanks of the last word in the sentence withlout fail.

Today, every night when they reached home from her grandma's place, i will rountinely, go to my box of books, pick up any one book and start flipping, sometimes pause to read a word or two on a page, other time just flipping with quick browse.

Recognizing and verbalizing A to Z lower case
At 15 mths, i was able to recongnize all alphabaest upper and lower case. But can mixed up "n" and "u" at times!

Number Sense
Now they are getting me to verbalise 14 to 20. 18 and 20 are easy!

Finger training and recognizing world continents
May thought i need to improve my fine motor skills, she need to let me practice some finger excersie. So, she got me a little wooden puzzle of world continents. I can piece them up and read out the name of the continent on the puzzle although MYpronoucation needs to be further improved. :p

"Balls in the sky"
Thjis refers to the planets. i love them. Could recognize and verbalize the words and identify the pictures.

Descriptive words
Whn i turned 16 mths old, one day, the folks herad me describe a ball as "green ball". That is when the folks realise i can describes things. So, nowadays, they make a conserted effort to also add a descriptive word or two infront of every noun. E.g: Small purple pail, pink towel, blue sky, white fluffy clouds, happy face and etc.

Xue Hua Yu
They thought they have been communicating too much to her in english, so they got a set of chinese words and picture book. Grandma JiaJia is chinese educated, and since Chloe spent most of her weekdays time with grandma, it seems an excellent deployment to get grandma to teach me to recognise chinese characters.

Grandma did a great job, to date, i could recognise characters of basic body parts, natural phenomenal, family members and numbers in chinese!

One day, Grandma JiaJia's usual morning, activity is to go to the food court after a morning stroll at the neighbourhood park. Grandma and qigong Kakees brought me to the nearby foodcourt. I immediately recognise the character "kou" on the saucer which has the word "Kou Fu" printed on it. Every one was thrilled.

There was another occasion, i was sitting down on the floor with her chinese book. i was flipping and reading the charcters. And guess, what, when i flipped to the chinese chracter "Pi", i said "pi" and followed by "nose". I tell you, you should look at the faces of my folks...they were amazed!!! I went on vebalizing the basic body parts first in mandrine then in english. That was when i was 16 mths old!

TEMPLE VISIT

Dear Bloggy,

Today Desmond and May brought me to this temple. Its not exactly a building! Its seems too opened to be a building because the ceilings are red and white, i cant see any walls, windows or doors. So strange!

Anyway, i enjoyed my trip. I get to see lots of fruits. There's nana, papple, pear, orrrange. In fact theres fruits everywhere. The peopel here sure looooves to mum mum fruits! There's also these poles with 'gon'on it. Each 'gon'has a different colour...i like the orrrrange one :>. There's also 2 big big big fan. I love to go there..very cooling.

Whenever i go in the temple, May and Desmond and everyone else will ask me to pray pray.

There are many red chairs all stacked up. Then, there is this very strange looking chair also got 'gon' on it. In fact, this chair got many 'gon'. The chair also hangs many titu around its arm. Hmmmm good idea...when i go back to Grandma JiaJia place i also want to hang my titu on my chair chair.

I think the people there looove numbers very much. So many of them are wearing numbers. Some numbers i can identify; some i cant. I saw lao cek, he is in number 8. Pah pah!!!! CekCek in 2 and 6. Well, also in 5 and 10. I'm so confused, it seems like all man i must address as CekCek?

YI, ER , SAN...

Grandma JiaJia started me on Chinese Language.

She thought how to count from 1 to 10 in Mandrine. But i can only manage San, Wu, Liu, Qi, Ba, Jiu. May said i am a little 'Kang Tan'...What's that? Well, it was because all my chinese pronuciation has a strong English accent.

Grandma JiaJia dug out a chair and improvised it to become my personal chair. Waaaah, i had a chair of my own...Chloe's little chair..Waaaaah... I love to practice sitting on this chair and kicing my 2 little trotters....The chair has something special that all adult chairs dont have. It has this piece of flap that i love to open and close. Whenever i lift the flap, there will be a big hole hole...so strange.

STAIRS CLIMBING...ITS FUN!!!

Hi bloggy,

I wanna share my accomplishment with you.

This morning, i was playing in the living room and as usual ah ma will followed me close behind. I walked with my 2 wobbling feet towars the foot of the staircase, pushed open the barracet and climbed on fours up the stairs. Ah ma was closed behind me, making sure i dont fall off. When i finally maked it to the top i raced towards Desmond and May's bedroom.....I saw them and smiled.

Ah ma exclaimed in excitment my achievements. Desmond carried me down the stairs and i demonstrate to the folks once again my spidy moves. May was a the other end of the stair case waiting and cheering for me. When i finally reached the top, she hugged me with lots of pride.

But bloggy, climbing down the steps is tough...."Pah Pah"

ALPHABETS I KNOW THEM ALL..YEPEEEEE!!!

I finally master all the 24 alphabets A to Z. But i'm confused??? Do we call this image "Z" Zee or Zac???

This morning, in front of Desmond, May ask me what's the opposite of cold...I suprised her with the answer "HOT". Then she went on to ask, what's the opposite of up, i said "DOWN". Then so strange, she asked a smiliar question...what's opposite of down. So i answered "UP". Well, this opposite thing went on for quite sometime...May asked me to gave her a list of opposites to these words:

-Hot -Down -Happy -Laugh -Wild -Light -Empty -Man -Girl -Wet -Clean -Big -No -Old
-Fat -Low -Short -Awake (The opposite of awake i dunno how to pronounce...so i acted out by lying my head on the bed, May accept that answer...hehehee)

Then May asked again this time the other way round:

-Cold -Up -Sad (This one i answered "PPY", May corrected me...it's HA....PPY) -Wild
-Light -Full (This one i answered "TY", May corrected me again...it's EMP...TY)
-Woman -Boy -Dry -Dirty -Small -Yes -Young (Then i heard Desmond asked May why i didnt answered New?) -Thin -High - Long -Asleep.

The folks were so suprised...kept clapping. I think they look suprised epecially Desmond, his expression was those of raised brow. He grabbed me and kissed me so hard...hehehe...it was ticklish....

MUMMY CAN TEACH, SO CAN I

Dear bloggy,

I remember hearing May teaching her class when i was inside her womb womb. I thought i also saw her pointing to the board as she teach.

Today, i found this pole on the floor. I picked it up, walk towards the table and point at the label 'table' and called out 'table'. Then i shifted the pole to the label 'drawer' and called out 'drawer'. Hehehe....see i can also teach like May.

I learnt 2 new fruits or are they vegetables? May called them fruit but JiuJiu called them vegetable. Well anyway, they are chilli and ladies finger. Huh...finger....I know I know...i wriggle my fingers to show May i know what's Ladies finger. But all of them laugh at me....i wonder why?

Btw, why are these fingers green in colour?

Lately, I have been playng this recitation game with May. She will stare at me and say 1, i'll say 2, she'll say 3, and i'll reply 4....until we end at 12.

I finally recognise this word 'chloe'. That's meeeeeeee...that's how i spell by name, 'c', 'h', 'l', 'o', 'e.

See...see...see.... my rash rash...Sob! Sob!

Grandma JiaJia, Grandpa JiaGong and May were scrutinizing my body. They suspected that it could be fasle measels. Dr Teo confirm it this morning.

THE POWER OF CRYING!!!

Yesterday, JiuJiu opened up the wardrobe door and behing the door is a tall mirror. I love to look at the mirror...there always a cute cute girl that will smile at me. I love to play with her. Sometimes, May and Grandma JiaJia also appeared in the mirror. Then, May decided to close the door and that cute cute girl disappears. That instant i started to wail and cry. May quickly opened the door and cute cute girl appeared again. I kissed her! :>

Later at night, I was browsing thru this number cloth book. May took it away from me. That instant i started to wail and cry again. May quickly returned the book to me.

Hmmmm..., i think there is a pattern. If i cry and wail, i can get what i want wor. How amazing!!

Power Power !!!!

IRRESPONSIBLE PARENTS

Hi bloggy,

I'm as sick as ever! Last night Desmond and May board me overnight at Grandma JiaJia's place. They wanted to go watch some spidey movie. What my folks didnt know was that my fever shot up above 39 degree celcius, my whole body was scalding, I was perspiring....JiaJia had to wrap ice in towel and dap it on my joints. Cold...Cold. It scared the hell out of Grandma JiaJia and JiuJiu.

The 'KOOLFEVER' mositure gel film ran out and Da JiuJiu had packed the only thermometer back to his new home home....How unlucky can i get??? JiuJiu had to cycle to the nearest 7-11 at 1 something a.m. just to get me the 'KOOLFEVER'. JiaJia and JiuJiu didnt sleep the night as they need to monitor my temperature and MY PARENTS ARE WATCHING SOME SPIDEY MOVIE OUT THERE...SOB! SOB!

Anyway, 3 days ago, i think i'm ready to showed it to my folks that i can identify colours - Blue/White/Black/Green/Red/Pink/Purple (i'm good at this) and Brown. Ya..i more thing....i can recite 1 to 6 by myself without looking at the numerals. I'm so proud of myself and so are my folks......but i am still sore over their irresponsible act!

I AM SICK!

I wake up this morning with a very hot body...May says i am having fever! She sticks this piece of pad on my forehead....its very cooling and comfortable! Haaaaaaaaah!

After milk milk, my fever subside and May tug me to bed again. She wakes mw up at around 8.50 a.m. and my body temperature went up! Desmond need to work so 'Cek Cek' drive me to 'Baby Bear'.

Though feverish, I seem energetic and curious of the clinic surroundings. May commented that i am the nosiest patient this morning. While all other kids are groaning in pain, looking rather listless and sick, I was going around the clinic, exploring every room. I even tried to make friends with 'KorKor' and 'JieJie' but they all dont wanna play with me! I wonder why?

Dr. Teo feared that it could be Hand, Foot and Mouth disease. So my folks need to monitor closely for signs and rashes that may appear on the palm, soles and joint areas, In addition, they need to scan for any boils or ulceration in the mouth, gums and tongue.

Oh Oh dear dear... May looked worried.... I hope its nothing serious.... Btw, i am 10 kg and 78 cm...waaaaaaaaah... see how much i have grown!!

LABELS LABELS EVERYWHERE!!!

In an effort to make me remember and associate objects to word, May heed Sinseh Jane's advice to stick the wordings of household objects next to the objects themselves. Then everyday, i will be carried around the house and these words are repeated to me! Haizzzzzzz..........

May made 2 sets, one for my house and the other for Grandma JiaJia's house. She pasted all over Grandma JiaJia living room, kitchen, bedroom and toilet. Grandma JiaJia called out 'Xiao ah'...i wonder what that mean? "Grandma JiaJia also teased May and said "You pasted everywhere...now the only item you didnt paste in this house is me!!!" I thought that was funny...imagine a label pasted on Grandma JiaJia....Hmmmm...i wonder how to spell that?

SEE...I CAN WALK!!!

It's actually Grandpa JiaGong's Birthday today! The folks wanted to celebtae Grandpa's birthday and Mother's day together. We were waiting for JiuJiu and Jiu Ma, so Desmond and May let me practice walking in my new shoe shoe outside the HDB Hub drop off point.

Watch me walk in my new shoe shoe.....Waaaaaaaah...lots of car car!!!!

MY SATURDAY

After lunch today, the poo poo feeling comes. May rushed me upstair into the bedroom and sat me down in my little red potty! Like some adults, i also like to do some reading during poo poo.

Mummy....give me some privacy, please?

After the poo poo, may got me all cleaned up and sat me down this time infront of 'no no'. By the way,'no no' is piano (May always correct me on this!). See... a musician in the making!!!
This note is F#...
In the evening, Desmond and May are concerned that i am not walking when i put on my shoe shoe. Hence, they decided to buy me a new pair of shoe shoe in the shopping mall. May claimed that the material is softer so that i won't feel uncomfortable!
My new pair of shoe shoe...Nice?

Hey, i got a chance to go into an arcade in the shopping mall. Desmond put me on a horse in the Merry-Go-Round. Its my first Merry-Go-Rond ride....Yipee! I hold on to the pole tightly, scared i will fall off the horse. I enjoyed the ride vey much but that doesn't mean you folks have to make me go another round....Its dizzy...i'm seeing stars stars!!

May got me a Kitty balloon....Yeah! I love it. See See See......Cute right!!!
Daddy, cute Kitty balloon and Meeeeeee....

We reached home aroung 9+. I was so tired. May sat me on the bed while she prepare my bath. She was busy gathering my PJ and i fell off the bed. I wailed! Ah-Ma quickly brought me to see fish fish in an attempt to coax me! Desmond was upset with May and and they had an auguement... i can hear them even in the living room! Oops!

REPEAT AFTER U!!!

"Today marks another milestone of her lingusitic development".

These are the exact words from May. I wonder what that means?

Well, what I do know is today i like to repeat the words people say. This morning, Ah Ma called out ZieZie...by the way Zie Zie's May pet dog, and i repeat after her. May said my pronouciation is good! What's pronouciation? Well anyway, i think is some good things that i did, because everytime when I repeat after these adults, they will clap, grin and smile at me! :>

GOOD MANNERS :>

This morning in the lift, on our way to Grandma JiaJia's home, an elderly lady who took the same lift saw me and called out, " Are you Chloe?" Desmond and May had a shocked, they are wondering since when their daughter becomes so popular. What they didn't know is that this elderly lady is in the same Qigong brigade as Grandma JiaJia......

Just now, i gave everyone a pleasant suprise. I decided its time to exhibit some good manners. I saw Desmond's younger brother appearing...i greeted him "Cek Cek", he was thrilled and so was everyone else. "Cek Cek" i repeated. Then saw his girlfriend....i stared at her...hmmmmm how do i address her hah? Must think of contingency plan. So, I decided to walk with my 2 little wobbling feet towards her. I wave my hands...."Harrow"!

You bet, everyone was so proud of me...heheheh!!!

I'm so tired....didnt sleep since 1p.m this afternoon..........Goodnight Bloggy!

A RIDE HOME IN MRT - I'M 13 MONTHS OLD TODAY!!!

After class today, Desmond suggested we take the MRT home...hmmm...i wonder what was that??

There's lots of people in the MRT and nothing much to see really...its all pitch dark when i look out of the windows. I was famished so complained with a screech in the MRT. But after a few stops, i started to see roads, traffic and buildings and all...hmmm...started to get more interesting, but, still hungry. Luckily May packed milk....but cold. I managed to finish the whole bottle when we reached our destination.

After we alight, May pointed out to the MRT and called out the word "Train, Train". Now, i get it.......MRT, thats the train train thingy that i saw when i gazed out of my apartment window. That's the one that May kept writing the word "Train" on the board. Wah, i was in that train train....Waaaaaaaaaaaah. I like it!!!

I'm 13 months today and hey 13 months with this couple...not bad i must say.. they love me alot but May has high expectation of me!! A bit stressed! Anyway...here's a collage of me...12 short months...Short indeed! It's just the beginning.....

Waaaaaaaaahh...........

TURNING 13 MONTHS OLD....

Time flies....

I'm turning 13 months. Just 3 days ago, i started to articulate words flashed to me. May and Desmond were thrilled and so were everyone else in May's family. Desmond still cannot believe that i actually reconginzes the words, heheheh....!

Credit goes to May and Grandma Jiajia...for not their diligent flashing of cards and screening of "Baby I can read" series, i could not havae learnt these word so fast. Special thanks to Desmond for buying and installing the DVD player.

So here goes the list:
-Car
-Head
-Hair
-Wave
-Ball
-Kick
-Toes
-Bird
-Zoo
-Up
-No
-Comb
-Knee
-Bus (May kept correcting my pronouciation for this)
-Bee
-Nose
-Train (May kept correcting my pronouciation for this)
-Girl
-Boy
-Book

But i must confess sometimes i can forget how to pronounce them! :<
